{"id":716,"date":"2013-06-29T05:06:55","date_gmt":"2013-06-29T05:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.themissingdocs.net\/wordpress\/?p=716"},"modified":"2013-06-29T05:06:55","modified_gmt":"2013-06-29T05:06:55","slug":"net-4-5-1-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.themissingdocs.net\/?p=716","title":{"rendered":".Net 4.5.1 Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new .Net preview is out, this time a minor point release, but I decided to do a reference assembly comparison anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Absolutely nothing removed (as expected), but also only a handful of additions to the API.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Precision\/Scale properties for DbParameter.<\/li>\n<li>SqlConnectionStringBuilder gets connection retry count and interval properties.<\/li>\n<li>EventSource (Diagnostics.Tracing) gets ConstructionException and CurrentThreadActivityId read-only properties and a couple of methods to set the current thread activity ID.\u00a0 I think the current thread activity ID concept may be new to Windows 8.1 &#8211; if something else I was reading is associated with this.<\/li>\n<li>EventWrittenEventArgs (Diagnostics.Tracing) gets ActivityId and RelatedActivityId read-only properties.<\/li>\n<li>ActiveDirectory has new enum values for 2012 R2 Server domains\/forests.<\/li>\n<li>MemoryMappedViewAccessor and MemoryMappedViewStream both now have PointerOffset read-only properties.<\/li>\n<li>GCLargeObjectHeapCompactionMode enum for use with the new LargeObjectHeapCompactionMode property on GCSettings.\u00a0 2 values, Default and CompactOnce.\u00a0 I guess this property auto-resets back to default on the next full GC if set to compact once. (Also in Core.)<\/li>\n<li>A bunch of new generic methods on Marshal &#8211; looks like a mixture of convenience and avoiding boxing of structs. (Also in Core.)<\/li>\n<li>SignedXml &#8211; SafeCanonicalizationMethods read-only property.<\/li>\n<li>TransactionScope now supports the new TransactionScopeAsyncFlowOption enum in several new constructors.\u00a0 I presume this controls how transaction scopes interact with async, which I presume lets you improve performance when you know a certain async section can safely be performed outside transaction scope.<\/li>\n<li>Web.Hosting.CustomLoaderAttribute<\/li>\n<li>HostingEnvironment.StopListening event.<\/li>\n<li>IStopListeningRegisteredObject and ISuspendibleRegisteredObject interfaces in Web.Hosting &#8211; but I haven&#8217;t found what uses them yet.<\/li>\n<li>Core only: AsRandomAccessStream extension method for streams.<\/li>\n<li>Core only: System.Threading.Timer arrives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I have listed everything I found, but if you want to look at my raw processed output files for some reason (which are much smaller than last time, due to a far smaller number of changes) there is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themissingdocs.net\/downloads\/Compare4.5.1to4.5.html\">v4.5.1 to v4.5 comparison<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.themissingdocs.net\/downloads\/Compare4.5.1Coreto4.5Core.html\">v4.5.1 core to v4.5 core comparison<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new .Net preview is out, this time a minor point release, but I decided to do a reference assembly comparison anyway.
